How to Make Your Dog a Happy Dog on Christmas


Everyone loves the excitement of Christmas morning, the family get together, the food, the gifts, the music, etc. Did you know that your little Dachshund probably does too? Any dog for that matter loves the excitement of all those secrets wrapped in packages, all those gift bags to explore. It's a great time for your dog and your family. So help your dog have a happier Christmas by trying to make it special for him and more enjoyable.

Something that is fun to do during the Christmas season is to go out and get your little dog a nice holiday accessory. Get a colorful color with bells attached, a bandana around his neck that is decorated with Christmas cheer. Let him wear his holiday cheer during the entire season. But make sure you always let him know how good he looks. Remember dogs like compliments too. Of course it's the way you say it to them that they understand it is something nice you are saying about them. And this in turn makes them happy.

When you go Christmas shopping for the family, make sure that you include your dog on the list as well. It's important though that you make sure that what you have on the list for him is something you know that he is going to like. For instance getting him doggie shampoo or some flea medication, although he may need it, it not going to be a fun gift for him to open on Christmas day. Stick with the rawhide bones, balls, treats and traditional doggie toys instead.

Kids and grownups love to unwrap the gift wrap, it's part of the excitement. But, dogs simply don't care for that. It's hard for your dog to get to the gift by expecting him to unwrap a gift that taped up. So to keep your dog happy make sure that their gift is put in a gift bag with some tissue paper so it will be easier for them to open up and find their surprise.

When it's time for your dog to open his gift, take the gift bag and hold it under his nose and make sure that the tissue paper is out of his way so that he can see something is in the bag too. This way he'll be more than happy to get his toy or treat out of the bag with a lot of excitement instead of frustration.

When you have more than one gift to give your dog, don't give him all the gifts at one time. Let him enjoy each gift individually. Give him one and go on with all of your unwrapping for a bit and then give him another one to open. Staggering the gifts will make him happier and will give him the choice to enjoy each one individually. He may lose interest if you give them to him all at the same time.

When it comes to meal time, it's OK to give him a little bit of Christmas dinner along with his regular meal. You might want to add some veggies and even some turkey as well. Just make sure that you check the turkey for bones. You don't want your dog choking on Christmas day.
