You know you are always looking for a yummy treat to give your loving little Yorkie and maybe you've found that he's a little picky when it comes to eating some of those treats. This can be a little frustrating and a waste of money as well. However, you can save money and provide him with a treat that is good tasting as well as good for him by making him someone homemade dog cookies he will more than likely love.
Ingredients you will need are the following:
1 cup of oatmeal
1/3 cup of margarine
1 cup of water
¾ cup of cornmeal
2 teaspoons white sugar
2 teaspoons of beef bouillon granules
½ cup of milk
1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
1 beaten egg
3 cups of whole wheat flour
Before you start preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Take the water and put in in a small saucepan and boil it. Then take a large bowl and mix together the oatmeal and margarine and then add the boiling water to it and let it sit for ten minutes.
Next you will add the cornmeal, egg, sugar, bouillon, milk and the cheese to the bowl. Mix good and gradually add one cup of the flour at a time. Continue stirring the mixture until it starts to turn into a stiff dough.
Take some flour and sprinkle it on the counter or a cutting board so the dough won't stick. Take the cookie dough out of the bowl and put it on the counter or cutting board. Make sure to knead the dough good and if it gets sticky add more flour to the surface. Make sure that the dough is very smooth when you are done kneading.
Now take a rolling pin and roll the dough out to about ½ inch thick. Take a cookie cutter and begin cutting out the cookies and then you can place them on a greased cookie sheet. Make sure that they are placed on the sheet about an inch apart from each other so that they don't stick together when they are baking. Place them in the oven and bake for about 35 to 45 minutes, just until the cookies are a light brown.
When they are done baking you should remove them from the oven and let them cool all the way before you go a head and start giving these yummy treats to your adorable and picky little Yorkie pooch.
Make sure that you take the finished cookies and put them in a container that has an air tight lid so that you can keep them fresh for whenever you want to grab a few for dog when you want to treat him for doing something good or just because you want to show him how much you love him.
